Three People Injured in Shooting Outside NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull in Bedford–Stuyvesant

A chaotic scene unfolded Friday afternoon outside NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull in Brooklyn, when gunfire erupted near the busy intersection of Flushing Avenue and Broadway in the Bedford–Stuyvesant neighborhood.

According to the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), three people were injured in the shooting, which occurred just after 3:30 p.m. The victims were immediately rushed inside the nearby hospital for emergency treatment as police officers secured the area and launched an investigation.

Witnesses described the moment as sudden and terrifying. Many people in the area, including hospital staff and patients, heard a series of loud pops followed by screams and chaos as bystanders scrambled for cover. “It sounded like five or six shots,” one witness said.

“People were running everywhere — it was panic.” Within minutes, police cruisers and ambulances flooded the intersection, and the hospital’s emergency department was placed on heightened alert to receive the victims.

The FDNY confirmed that all three shooting victims were transported inside Woodhull Hospital, though their conditions have not yet been released. Law enforcement officials have not yet provided details about the circumstances that led to the gunfire or whether any suspects have been taken into custody.

As of Friday evening, the New York Police Department (NYPD) had established a large crime scene perimeter around the intersection, blocking traffic and redirecting pedestrians while detectives gathered evidence.

Police officers could be seen marking shell casings along the street, and multiple patrol units were stationed at nearby intersections to control the flow of vehicles and pedestrians. The hospital remained operational but under tight security, as officers ensured the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.

The shooting comes at a time when residents of Bedford–Stuyvesant and surrounding Brooklyn neighborhoods have expressed growing concern about gun violence and public safety.

Community members gathered near the scene expressed frustration and sadness, calling for more effective measures to curb the violence plaguing their streets. “It’s heartbreaking to see this happen right outside a hospital — a place meant for healing,” said a local resident. “We need to do better for our community.”

As the investigation unfolds, detectives from the NYPD’s Gun Violence Suppression Division and Brooklyn North Homicide Squad are reportedly assisting in processing evidence and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby buildings and traffic cameras.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward, emphasizing that even the smallest detail could help identify the suspect or suspects involved. Local leaders and hospital officials have also issued statements condemning the violence and expressing their concern for the victims.

“Our thoughts are with the individuals injured today and their families,” a hospital spokesperson said. “We are cooperating fully with law enforcement as they investigate this tragic event.”

As of now, this remains a developing story, and updates regarding the victims’ conditions, possible motives, and suspect information are expected as the investigation continues. The community of Bedford–Stuyvesant is left shaken but hopeful for answers — and for the recovery of those injured in this senseless act of violence.
