Authorities have identified the man who was tragically killed in the Edwardsville shooting last weekend as Kevin Spencer, 37, of New Jersey.
The fatal shooting, which occurred shortly after noon on Saturday, October 19, 2025, at an apartment located at 589 Main Street, has left the community shocked and searching for answers as investigators continue to piece together the events that led to the deadly encounter.
According to Luzerne County Coroner Dion Fernandes, Kevin Spencer was pronounced dead following the incident, with the official cause and manner of death still under investigation.
The shooting also left one other person injured, identified through court documents as Hafusulla Kareem Dunn, 36, of Wilkes-Barre. Dunn was reportedly treated for unspecified injuries at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township.
Authorities say that the confrontation began inside the apartment, where Dunn allegedly pulled a firearm from a fanny pack around his waist and fired multiple shots.
Surveillance footage from the scene reportedly captured three gunshots fired at 12:03 p.m., followed by the apartment’s occupant running out the front of the building in distress. Dunn is accused of fleeing the scene through a back door while wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black ski mask.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and investigators from the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, Edwardsville Police Department, and Pennsylvania State Police continue to actively investigate the circumstances surrounding the case.
While Dunn has not been charged with homicide at this time, he faces multiple felony charges, including discharging a firearm into an occupied structure and illegal possession of a firearm.
Authorities noted that Dunn is prohibited from owning or carrying a firearm due to a 2014 conviction for manufacturing a controlled substance. He is currently being held without bail at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
